London set to gain £78m from waste and recycling plants
Environmental News 01 Apr 20091,000 jobs and £78m a year could be brought to the capital’s economy from waste and recycling plants which has been brought forward as a plan by The Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
This report outlines the economic boost and job opportunities for London and the UK. It is called Prospectus for London, the Low Carbon Capital.
Boris Johnson is planning on rolling out a significant waste plan across London using proven technologies to facilitate the conversion of organic waste to input renewable power to the London grid. Additional sustainable revenue streams could be created through sale of fertiliser and recyclate to industry and agriculture.
This means that 14,000 jobs could be created each year, bringing £600m a year to the capital’s economy if London implements these low carbon programmes. The plan is to build 98 waste and recycling plants by 2025 which would result in 1,260 jobs created each year.
