Food Manufacture Jobs: Addressing the skills shortage in the food and farming sector
FMCG Jobs 04 Feb 2010The food and farming sector in the UK is believed to be suffering from a skills shortage according to the Online Meat Trades Journal. Apparently, in the UK’s food manufacturing industry, one in four technologist posts are reportedly vacant and 50% of the sector’s workforce are over the age of 40. Additionally, 60% of the vacancies in agriculture crops and livestock in England are hard to fill.
In order to address the sector’s difficulties in attracting and finding new staff The University of Lincoln has launched two new degree courses, BSc (Hons) Food Manufacture and BSc (Hons) Agriculture and Environmental Management.
The courses are due to start in September 2010 and will aim to provide both industries with the higher-level skills needed to ensure future competitiveness.
