Medical Device Jobs: FDA concern about the promotion of medical devices via social media networks
Medical News 22 Sep 2009The FDA is considering issuing extra guidelines for the promotion of medical devices via social media networks (clinica.co.uk). The internet has become increasingly dominant and is now used widely by US companies as an advertising tool including manufacturers and distributors of FDA-regulated medical products.
With a new generation of web development - Web 2.0, concerns are stemmed from the fact that the majority of online content on social media sites is not published by the property owners but by the users of the network (clinica.co.uk). “Although the agency believes that many issues can be addressed through existing FDA regulations, special characteristics of Web 2.0 and other emerging technologies may require the agency to provide additional guidance to the industry on how the regulations should be applied”, the agency said in a Federal Register announcement on September 21 (Clinica.co.uk).
