Medical Device Jobs: Wound management markets grow outside of the US.

Medical News 21 Sep 2009

Like many markets, the US market for wound management has remained dominant over all other country markets. This however, is beginning to change with the growth of wound management technologies in both Germany and Japan with both markets growing at a similar pace.

In Germany, Wound healing agents have the biggest share of the non-prescription medical market. In 2008 the aggregate German advanced wound care market was valued at $592.1M and is expected to grow at a rate of 12% year on year (Mediligence.com). In Japan, it is estimated that more than 1 million people are treated for wounds on a daily basis. A large proportion of the wound management market comes from the increasing population of diabetics with approximately 5,500 new cases of diabetes each year. In addition with an estimated population of infirm elderly expected to reach 3.5 million in 2010 the treatment of decubitus ulcers provides further market opportunity in wound management (Mediligence.com).
