Job Description
The Business
Despite the current economic climate, our retained client can boast significant growth in sales and new business potential. Based in North Yorkshire, this business provides specialist metal forming and compound processes for aerospace and other diverse applications. Due to their unique service offering they are growing their revenues and process capability continuously and now seek a “hands-on”, profit focused Operations Director to lead and develop manufacturing operations to meet the demands of this business growth.
The Remit
To achieve congruence in the manufacturing operations of the business, quickly understanding and identifying the value add and non value add activities, eliminating waste, driving out all non conformances and delivering sustained OTIF to world class standards.
The Role
Reporting to the chair of the business, this role carries the management responsibility of the functional heads in production related areas including purchasing and scheduling through to dispatch. The immediate requirements will be to analyse, understand and address production, quality and fulfilment constraints, utilising appropriate advanced problem solving techniques.
In addition you will be capable of identifying costings for all materials and production related activities in order to improve cost performance and management.
Going forward there is a requirement to be an influential participant in decisions around capital investment and future strategy of the business.
You will also be tasked with reviewing the current management and functional structure, identifying skills gaps, training requirements and succession planning, and where required bringing in new skills and expertise to facilitate organisational development.
Longer term targets will be based around supply chain development, driving down supplier and logistics costs and expanding service offering through integrating new technologies and academia partnerships for research.
The Person
The successful candidate must fully understand multi-process, multi-discipline and multi-site manufacturing operations. The role requires a very “hands on” approach, being visible and active on the shop floor but having the ability to take a strategic view and build a long term operational strategy.
Experience within metal forming processes and aerospace industry would be an advantage but is not a prerequisite. A full understanding of modern manufacturing techniques, cost down initiatives and CI tools is required, however, we are looking for a practical and pragmatic individual who knows which tools are the right ones for the problems faced and when to apply them. You will have strong interpersonal skills and possess the drive, enthusiasm and motivational skills that deliver results.
If you feel this is you, we want to hear from you. Please send your cv along with covering letter to carl.boslem@dudleychild.co.uk or call Carl on 0113 246 8882
