Googlers: Can it work in any business?

I have always admired Richard Branson for his outlook on leadership and management, well from afar, I cant say we are best friends or even met. He has made Virgin one of the best companies to work for - they offer flexible working, great holiday, pensions, healthcare etc. In this day and age though, is that enough? (sorry Sir Richard, I am sure you do offer a lot more than the above!)

Are you actually ready to recruit?

A valued member of staff hands in their notice and they have a 1 month notice period. You start looking at posting adverts, speaking to recruitment agencies and asking your connections if they can recommend a suitable candidate....this knee jerk reaction sounds perfectly normal but I would urge you to stop and consider - Are you actually ready to recruit?

As you can imagine, in recruitment, my job is to ask a lot of questions - to candidates to find out more about their background and what they are looking for, to clients to find out about their business and specific requirements and to all you guys (my network) to find out more about the industry. One of the biggest areas where I will ask a number of questions is to candidates and these can seem never ending such as tell me about your current position, what KPI's/targets are you working to, why did you chose you current career etc... There is, however, only 3 questions that are important, can have further implications and are consistently asked.
