A tailor made, artificial lens has been developed for poorly sighted patients to allow their vision to be as sharp as high definition. The first ophthalmic surgeon to use the lens in the UK is Bobby Qureshi who has described the technique as “a hugely significant development”.

The lens is made from a special silicone that is light-sensitive. Over the course of several days it is adjusted and ultraviolet light is used on certain parts until perfect vision is achieved. The process involves the implant of the lens in to the eye using the standard procedure for Cataracts followed by fine-tuning the focus over several days. A final blast of light permanently fixes the lens to the eye giving patients vision in HD.
